Marian Shved latest: Celtic loanee impresses in Belgium

Celtic loanee Marian Shved has continued his Mechelen comeback today with an influential performance in a 3-0 win over Eupen.

Mechelen needed a victory heading into the encounter to stay away from any relegation trouble.

After enduring a difficult first half of the season, Shved is now a regular in Wouter Vrancken’s thinking.

He’s made three consecutive starts for his loan club, having not started for any club since 2019 previously.

Shved had a busy afternoon too, featuring prominently in the club’s match report, where he’s credited with helping the side to their opening goal.

His tricky attacking play and shot allowed a Geoffry Hairemans tap-in on the goalkeeper.

The Ukrainian took three shots against Eupen, with one of those on target. He also completed a dribble and two key passes, setting up opportunities for his teammates, as well as making an interception. [WhoScored]

Does Marian Shved have a Celtic future?

It’s great to see the 23-year-old finally find a bit of regular football, albeit not at Celtic.

He was a hyped arrival given his form in Ukraine but barely got an opportunity under Neil Lennon.

There may be a good reason for that. Clearly his off the pitch problems have impacted his progress. That became clear when Vrancken slammed him publicly in the Belgian press.

Still, if he’s now getting his act together, it’s worth Celtic keeping an eye on his progress. Maybe he’s finally figured out what it takes to train and work hard away from home.

If he has, we can’t rule out him having a future at Celtic Park under a new manager.
