Mark Guidi has thrown in the ‘two preferred candidates’ he says will become the next Celtic manager should Martin O’Neill say no.
O’Neill has injected new life into this Celtic team after overseeing big wins over Falkirk in the league and the Bhoys beating Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup at the weekend.
Celtic beat Rangers very convincingly under O’Neill when it looked like there was a danger they could struggle after their form dipped towards the end of the Brendan Rodgers reign.
But as the chat over who will become the next permanent boss rumbles on, journalist Mark Guidi has shared who he says ‘will’ become the next Celtic manager should O’Neill not get the gig full time.

Kjetil Knutsen and Kieran McKenna are Celtic’s ‘two preferred candidates’
Over the course of the last few weeks there have been a number of names discussed for the Celtic manager’s job.
However, with no clue from the club about who they have in mind, Guidi has named two managers who will get the job if O’Neill decides he doesn’t want to become the next permanent Celtic boss.
Guidi told The Go Radio Football Show, “I do think that the two preferred candidates outwith what Martin does is [Kjetil] Knutsen of Bodo/Glimt and Kieran McKenna of which they are the two clear front runners for the job.
“I think Kieran McKenna wants the Celtic job and Knutsen has said recently that he’s now ready to go and try something different and their season finishes next month.
“So if it’s not going to be Martin O’Neill, the new manager of Celtic will be Knutsen or McKenna. But Martin O’Neill is in the driving seat and it’s brilliant. It’s been a great appointment.
“He’s got them going and I have to say I’m absolutely delighted for Martin O’Neill. He’s 73 years of age. To take that on, you know, it required a lot.”
Kjetil Knutsen and Kieran McKenna’s managerial record amid Celtic rumours
Kjetil was linked to the Celtic job before Brendan Rodgers was hired in 2023. And, bizarrely, so was Kieran McKenna.
So what have both managers done in their careers to court the attention of the Glasgow giants:
Here, 67 Hail Hail takes a look at their current managerial record:
| Record | Played | Won | Drew | Lost | Goals For/Against | Points per 90 |
| Knutsen (Bodo/Glimt | 300 | 208 | 72 | 70 | 835/411 | 1.99 |
| McKenna (Ipswich Town) | 187 | 87 | 50 | 50 | 336/238 | 1.66 |
Knutsen has won four league titles at Bodo/Glimt, managed in the Champions League and took the Norwegian club to the semi-finals of last season’s Europa League.
McKenna is yet to win any managerial honours but has led Ipswich to the Premier League from League One.
