Celtic are rounding out their scouting and recruitment department this spring ahead of what could be a blockbuster summer transfer window.
Earlier this month, the Bhoys appointed Joe Dudgeon as the club’s Lead First Team Scout after a spell with the City Football Group and now another move has been made.
Football Scotland reports that former Southampton staff member Kevin Hamill has also been added to Mark Lawwell’s recruitment group at the club. Hamill’s work at the Saints included covering the Scottish market during a time they signed big stars such as Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama from the Bhoys.
Exciting summer ahead for Celtic
Lawwell, Celtic’s Head of First Team Scouting and Recruitment, has been in the post long enough to now start making a big difference to the way the Bhoys go about their business, in conjunction with manager Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou has previously praised Lawwell, as well as key finance players at the Bhoys, for supporting him in bringing the players he wants to Glasgow. Now it’s about identifying talent that can help take his team to the next level, backed by superb resources.
Celtic are set to announce a record turnover this summer and are currently on course to bank Champions League group stage cash for a second successive season. That should ensure that Postecoglou has quite a budget to add to his squad in the next window – especially since there’ll be no outlay on loan stars such as Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota this time around.
We could see record fees paid and a new calibre of star arrive in the Scottish Premiership – albeit nothing too outlandish or anything that significantly breaks the club’s wage structure.
It’s heartening to hear that plans continue to be worked on and moves made that could tangibly help a long-term vision for Celtic to succeed at home and abroad.
In other news, Harry Kewell shares how he was ‘blown away’ as Ange convinced him to make Celtic move.
