Mark Wilson and Gordon Dalziel put pundit’s ‘harsh’ criticism of Celtic winger straight vs St Mirren

Celtic’s win over St Mirren has generated a variety of headlines over the last 24 hours or so.

From Brendan Rodgers being delighted with the victory over St Mirren to the Celtic boss firing criticism to the fans about the treatment of Greg Taylor, the win seems to be a bit bittersweet for those connected to the club this weekend.

With Celtic widening the gap to Rangers after the Ibrox club after bottled it against Hibernian in a 3-3 draw at Easter Road, there should be nothing but positivity surrounding the Parkhead club and their players over the coming days.

But that wasn’t to be and even when Celtic were cruising, one player was instantly criticised by Hugh Keevins before he even stepped onto the Parkhead turf and kicked a ball against Stephen Robinson’s team.

Hugh Keevins told to ‘cut a bit of slack’ to Celtic winger Hyunjun Yang

Clearly unhappy with the introduction of Celtic winger, Hyunjun Yang to the proceedings against St Mirren, Keevins can be heard groaning with disdain 26 minutes into the show and it led to Gordon Dalziel and Mark Wilson stepping in to defend the South Korean.

Keevins said on Superscoreboard [26m], “You fancy Yang for a goal?”

Dalziel: “Yeah, I do.”

Keevins: “Which team?”

Dalziel: “I think we are a wee bit unfair on him. I know that these last few appearances weren’t great, but obviously, Brendan Rodgers still thinks he’s got something?”

Wilson: “What age is Yang? 21? Something like that? You’ve got to cut this guy a bit of slack, Hugh. Come on.”

Keevins: “Why?”

Wilson: “He’s 22.”

Keevins: “I was married and a father at 22.”

Wilson: “And you were getting criticised, were you?”

Hyunjun Yang’s record at Celtic so far

Yang has come under a bit of pressure at Celtic to start producing performances simply because the people ahead of him are turning it on this season.

Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda have been exceptional so far as Yang has had to bide his time on the Celtic bench.

Signed by Rodgers in July 2023, here is a full rundown of how Yang has performed at Celtic:

Clearly, the youngster is not getting enough minutes to show what he can do on average, but when Yang has been given the nod to start (like against Dundee United and Dundee this season) he has failed to contribute much to the game.

Hopefully, he will come good but featuring as a bit-part player at Celtic for the second season in a row does not bode well for the former Korean FA Player of The Year.
