Mark Wilson completely nails why Rangers are complaining so much about the SFA after Celtic Park defeat

The Rangers deflection tactics in the wake of their second derby defeat to Celtic this season have worked perfectly.

They’ve sown up the media cycle with their numerous statements on the phantom penalty issue and have tried to cast VAR Willie Collum and the Scottish FA as villains despite knowing deep down they were never going to get that penalty at Celtic Park.

For former Celtic defender Mark Wilson, it’s an obvious ploy to turn attention away from their own failings on the day and yet another underperformance against the Bhoys.

Brendan Rodgers’ side deservedly won the game 2-1 after quality goals from Paulo Bernardo and Kyogo Furuhashi but few are talking about that, either.

Wilson summed up the situation on Clyde 1 Super Scoreboard tonight, stating: “I think they’re deflecting from performances on the pitch. See if I’m being honest, okay these decisions might have gone against Rangers – I agree it was a handball. But the outcome wouldn’t have been a penalty, it didn’t change the outcome of the game.

“I tell you what everyone is doing now – they’re talking about the decision, not talking about Rangers being beaten after being in the ascendency. Nobody is talking about the manager’s team selection, nobody is talking about Dessers, and nobody is talking about the manager’s substitutions. It’s about the statement being put out about Willie Collum.

“It’s the same with the game at Ibrox earlier in the season. Everybody spoke about that decision, instead of the defeat. It’s deflection.”

This is a fair assessment from the radio pundit and will align with the feelings of many Celtic fans. Rather than simply dealing with their defeat, Rangers have stirred up unnecessary controversy.

It’s something that could backfire, however. Rather than analysing their problems, they’re getting caught up in a rather emotional feud with authorities.

Surely they’d be better served looking at why Celtic keep beating them in this fixture when it truly matters? Surely their fans would rather seek the answers for that?

Here’s a clue for them – it’s not because of the referees.
