Celtic had to dig deep in midweek to overcome a stiff test against Aberdeen in front of a lively home crowd at Pittodrie.

Despite Jimmy Thelin’s best efforts, the Dons couldn’t subdue the visitors as Reo Hatate put the seal on a pivotal victory for Brendan Rodgers’ men.

Consequentially, Celtic have moved seven points clear of Aberdeen with a game in hand, potentially cementing their place above the Dons for the season unless a monumental collapse were to unfold in the coming months.

Expectedly, Rodgers insists the title race isn’t anywhere near over as the Bhoys look to continue putting points on the board in the Scottish Premiership.

Before digging into the permutations of the victory over Aberdeen, Mark Wilson has highlighted where the Irishman deserves credit for his role in a statement triumph.

Mark Wilson on how Brendan Rodgers changed Aberdeen clash

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Wilson gave Rodgers his plaudits for bringing Greg Taylor into proceedings, labelling the change as a ‘crucial’ element of Celtic’s win at Pittodrie as the defender recorded a classy assist.

He stated: “I thought the change at half-time was crucial. It’s easy to say because Greg Taylor comes and gets the assist, but I think the way the game was panning out.

“As soon as Taylor comes in the second half and how central he was, he gave Aberdeen a problem.

“Celtic had a lot more of the ball in forward areas, created more, and I thought that was crucial. For all the stick Greg Taylor gets, I thought he was great when he comes on and he obviously has a hand in the goal, and one was all that was needed to get over the line.”

Greg Taylor’s contract situation at Celtic needs resolved

Ultimately, the drum will keep banging for Taylor’s Celtic contract situation to be resolved until a definitive outcome becomes public knowledge surrounding his future.

This season, the Scotland international has registered five assists in eighteen appearances across all competitions, regularly making an impact in forward areas via his inverted role in the side.

Could Celtic upgrade on him? Possibly, but he offers something tangible to the cause and his presence in the dressing room is an important facet of recent successes.

Hopefully, there can be a solution to a matter that is fast becoming the elephant in the room amid an excellent start to the season for the Bhoys.
