Celtic have a squad brimming with competition under Brendan Rodgers, and there is little room for players not to take their opportunity.
While 12 Bhoys headed out on international duty, the remaining contingent, minus a couple of first-team stars who have endured a heavy workload, headed over to Ireland in midweek to take part in a friendly encounter.
Sligo Rovers came a cropper to Celtic in the end, with Luis Palma’s hat-trick in Ireland the main headline alongside Luke McCowan and Hyunjun Yang’s respective performances.

Maik Nawrocki and Stephen Welsh were also able to add some valuable minutes after being on the periphery under Rodgers this season.
Despite some mentioned retaining fringe status, Mark Wilson thinks there is a Celtic man who could potentially force his way back into contention.
Mark Wilson on Stephen Welsh’s Celtic prospects
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Wilson laid out what he suspects Welsh’s mindset will be at Celtic and doesn’t believe he will be giving up on a first-team slot any time soon.
He explained: “Welsh, maybe slightly different. He probably in his own mind still thinks he’s got a fighting chance.
“I know people and fans from the outside might think he’s crazy if he ever going to get back in the team, but footballers don’t really think like that.
“They think when they’re in the environment (they can change perceptions), Welsh has got a considerable amount of games behind him now, he’ll still think he can realistically fight for his place, so it’s a personal choice, but sometimes you’ve got to face reality.”
Stephen Welsh may find it hard for Celtic opportunities
Welsh has the ability to come into the fold for Celtic, but Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers have formed a formidable partnership at the back that has led to six Scottish Premiership clean sheets this term.
Alongside that, £6 million Bhoys signing Auston Trusty has also entered the picture and looks to be a tidy acquisition from his opening displays, so the Lennoxtown graduate may find minutes hard to come by over the next few months.
While he battles to gain more recognition at Celtic, applying himself in training no matter the circumstances will be his best bet of usurping any of the trio mentioned.
