Celtic fans are still delirious after their side’s excellent Champions League victory over RB Leipzig in midweek that has furthered their prospects of tournament progression.

With seven points from their opening four league phase matches, the Bhoys are now in a brilliant position to secure qualification for the knockouts under Brendan Rodgers.

Overwhelmingly, the collective feeling among fans and pundits alike surrounding Celtic’s win against Leipzig is that the Bhoys put on a performance to match the end result.

In previous years, the Scottish Premiership holders have claimed European scalps but rarely with 60% possession, 17 shots on goal and a higher Expected Goals total than their Champions League opponents.

Parkhead has been home to some special outcomes over the years. Now, Mark Wilson has ranked where he sees the Leipzig triumph in the context of recent history.

Mark Wilson on Celtic’s triumph against RB Leipzig

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Wilson believes Celtic’s win against Leipzig is ‘up there’ with the best he’s ever seen from his old side in the Champions League.

He stated: “It was fantastic. But a rollercoaster like any Celtic fan will tell you. When you see them going behind, you’re like, ‘ooh’, then ten minutes that they really should’ve been further ahead, Leipzig, but that happens, you ride your luck.

“I thought they were brilliant at all parts of the game. Composure on the ball, energy levels, the chances they created, their technical ability. You look at some of their passes, Kuhn, Hatate, how they were just confident in their press as well. That’s how, obviously, they get the second goal.

“It was honestly up there with the best Champions League performance I’ve seen from a Celtic team. I played in some big ones, but I wasn’t as dynamic and as fluid, everything, all the buzz words was what I seen the other night, I thought it was just outstanding.”

Celtic will now put their focus into Scottish Premiership duties

Before clocking off for the international break, Celtic travel to face Kilmarnock at Rugby Park as they aim to maintain their unbeaten run in the Scottish Premiership.

Aberdeen will hope to put the Bhoys under some pressure by going top at Pittodrie the night before against Dundee, but the Bhoys will fancy their chances of ensuring they stay at the summit.

Should they bring the fluidity to Ayrshire that was applied against Leipzig, Celtic will sand a great chance of achieving another three points.
