Martin O’Neill has been forced to cancel an event less than 24 hours after returning to Celtic.
The Hoops legend is back at Parkhead on an interim basis following Brendan Rodgers’ shock resignation.
He will be working alongside Shaun Maloney, with O’Neill confirming that he is assisting Maloney rather than leading the team himself.
O’Neill admitted to being shocked about returning to Celtic but will get straight down to work with a game against Falkirk to come on Wednesday night.
Martin O’Neill cancels talk night
Having been out of work since 2019, O’Neill probably wasn’t expecting a call to return to management and has spent the last few years working on TalkSPORT and hosting after-dinner speeches.
His latest talk was set to take place with Graham Spiers in a matter of weeks, where ‘An Evening with Martin O’Neill’ was going to be held at the Eastwood Theatre in Glasgow on Friday 7 November.
Those in attendance were going to be able to listen to stories from his career, as well as put him on the spot in a live Q&A, but it seems that the event has now been cancelled.
On Spiers’ tweet, the link directing fans hoping to buy a ticket takes them to a dead end, suggesting that it is no longer taking place.
Martin O’Neill isn’t a long-term option for Celtic
There are plenty of managers available to replace Rodgers at Celtic, but the 73-year-old won’t be one of them.
In an exclusive interview with TalkSPORT on Tuesday morning, O’Neill said that Celtic wanted a younger manager in the long-term, but he was happy to step in and help a club that means so much to him.
Celtic have confirmed they are already looking for a new manager, with Kieran McKenna one of the managers being linked with the Hoops.
