For the second time this season, Martin O’Neill has returned to Celtic with a 4-0 win.

In his first game since replacing Wilfried Nancy, O’Neill dismantled Dundee United, putting on a show at Celtic Park.

Yang Hyun-Jun and Arne Engels both scored sublime goals in the first half, before Benjamin Nygren and Daizen Maeda polished the win after the interval.

It was just what the team needed to re-establish some confidence as a three-way title race takes shape in the Scottish Premiership.

O’Neill has been speaking to the media after the win.

How much responsibility should the players take for Nancy’s tenure, given how quickly they seem to have turned it around with Dundee win?

Martin O’Neill on Celtic’s win vs Dundee United

O’Neill could’ve been back sooner, but after Celtic’s loss to Rangers last weekend, there was little doubt he would be back in the dugout.

In returning to a back four, he allowed Celtic’s wingers to thrive.

He was his usual bubbly self in his post-match reaction with BBC Scotland, describing the performance as ‘excellent’.

He said: “It was delightful. We played really well in the game, and we won – eventually, in the end – quite convincingly.

“You still have to score the first goal in the game, and Yang takes it magnificently, and we get up and running. But the performance was really good.

“I have no idea [what I’m bringing to the players]. I have to say. And it’s not a deflection; the players have to do the playing.

“It’s been a strange old week, I’ve come back in again – perhaps to haunt them, as much as anything else – but the players did brilliantly, absolutely brilliantly.

“I think someone was just saying that there were 32 passes before the first goal, and that was great. It’s a boost of confidence as much as anything else.

“Some of the players are just back to a bit of form that I know they can produce, and that was what I loved about today’s performance. Overall, we were excellent.”

The win takes Celtic back up to second place in the table ahead of their trip to face Falkirk on Wednesday.
