Tomas Cvancara’s time at Celtic looks set to end not with glory as Martin O’Neill confirms the striker will not play again

Celtic supporters have been left waiting for clarity around Cvancara’s absence in recent weeks. That clarity has now arrived, and Martin O’Neill delivers a devastating message for the player and the fans.

What looked like a temporary issue now looks far more serious. The situation has moved beyond simple Celtic first team selection and into something far more final.

Has Tomas Cvancara done enough to convince you that he deserves a permanent contract?

Tell me why…

Tomas Cvancara’s Celtic absence now has a clear explanation

Cvancara has been dealing with a groin strain that has kept him out of contention in recent weeks. That alone explains his absence, but the update from Celtic boss Martin O’Neill goes further.

O’Neill confirmed the full situation when he said: “He’s got a bit of a groin strain. They’re talking about the possibility of getting it seen to now. We’ll have a look at that.

“When I say get it seen to, that might involve a small operation or something like that. But we don’t know yet at this minute.

“He has to go for some more tests. If he had the operation, then you definitely wouldn’t see him again. But I’d like the specialist to have another look at it.”

If that route is taken, Cvancara’s season is over and he will not play for Celtic again.

That removes any lingering uncertainty about why he has not featured. The issue is not tactical or form-based, it is medical and unresolved.

Tomas Cvancara’s Celtic loan has not delivered

Even before this latest development, Cvancara had not made a meaningful impact on the pitch. The injury situation now confirms that there will be no late turnaround.

A loan spell for a striker is simply judged on availability and goals. On both counts, this move has fallen short.

With the risk of his season ending entirely, Celtic are left without yet another first team player in a season that has been plagued with injuries.

The injury update answers the questions around Cvancara’s absence, but it also closes the door on what might have been. Celtic took a chance, and the chance has not paid off.
