Martin O’Neill looks set to take charge of his final Celtic game on Sunday.

The Parkhead icon is one of the most decorated Celtic managers ever, and has won five of his six games since replacing Brendan Rodgers on an interim basis.

Despite this, however, it seems that he will make way for Wilfried Nancy at the beginning of next week, with the Columbus Crew manager’s deal set for confirmation.

It will call an end to a whirlwind interim period for O’Neill, who made his unexpected return after six years away from football, having seemingly retired.

And speaking ahead of the clash in the capital, he confirmed that he expects to see his successor come in next week.

O’Neill guided the Hoops to an outstanding victory over Feyenoord in Rotterdam, restoring optimism over their Europa League campaign.

He has reduced the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership, and will be hoping to reduce it further this weekend.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he was asked if he expected the situation to change after the game on Sunday.

He said: “Yes, I would imagine.

“I think that things are progressing. I was speaking to some of the board members last night, things are progressing very nicely.

“So I’m hoping that things will be in place by the beginning of next week.”

So that appears to be that – Nancy’s first game will be at Celtic Park against Dundee next week.

The timing of his official announcement remains unclear – could he even be in attendance at the game at Easter Road?

Regardless, he will be working hard at preparing to come in alongside his coaching staff. He has quite the run of fixtures ahead.

After his first match, Nancy faces Hearts, Roma and the League Cup final in a row. His feet will need to be under the desk quickly.
