Martin O’Neill explains why Trusty ‘didn’t do much’ in training ahead of Celtic’s trip to Dundee

It’s another trip to Dundee for Martin O’Neill’s side following the conclusion of the March international break.

For Celtic’s defeat to Dundee United last month, Auston Trusty was on the bench, but he enjoyed a positive trip to the United States during this past week.

Despite the USMNT losing to Portugal, Trusty was lauded for his performance before he went off with what looked like an injury during the dying minutes.

It was indeed cramp, but Trusty hasn’t trained much since returning to Lennoxtown, and O’Neill explained there is no reason to worry.

“He just travelled back, but he is fine,” O’Neill told Sky Sports.

Martin O’Neill issues update on Auston Trusty ahead of Dundee clash

This is positive news for the Celtic Park faithful because O’Neill is going to need everything and anything he can use to try and secure the title.

The Hoops fully understand that they are not favourites to defend their crown, sitting third in the Premiership table and five points behind leaders Hearts.

But having Trusty in the XI is needed, as he proved during Celtic’s recent Ibrox visit in the Scottish Cup.

The schedule has been brutal for Celtic in recent months, and whilst quite a lot of fans hate the international break, O’Neill took a lot of positives out of it.

“The games that we had before that, there, perhaps the last game before the break, maybe caught up with us,” said O’Neill. “We didn’t play well anyway in the match. We will try to rectify that this weekend.

“But really, for the international players disappearing. That was fine that they had a cause. Matches to go to, and for the lads who didn’t, at least the week has probably done them the world of good.

“But Auston didn’t do that much today (Friday). He just travelled back, but he is fine.”
