Celtic’s pursuit of Wilfried Nancy has taken a few twists and turns, but it finally seems to now be resolved.

That’s after Martin O’Neill clarified at his press conference that he will take charge of his final match against Dundee at Celtic Park on Wednesday.

This paves the way for Nancy to take charge of his first game against Hearts on Sunday, and he’ll be set for quite the baptism of fire.

But the focus, for now, is O’Neill. A club legend who returned in a time of need, and has restored the confidence and consistency of the players.

Wednesday night is sure to be an emotional one now at Celtic Park.

Nancy was supposed to be in the door by now, but O’Neill made the surprise announcement before the Hibs game that he would remain in post on Wednesday.

Some felt that this casted doubt over Nancy’s arrival, but it seems to have been merely a minor delay.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of the Dundee clash, O’Neill didn’t even let Gordon Duncan finish asking his question before confirming the news.

He said: “You will be relieved to know that this is definitely it, for tomorrow evening.

“Yeah, I’ve been assured of it by the board. So the new man will come in, I’m not sure about the process, but this is definitely the last game.

“I see that look on your face as being delighted!

“That was the remit. Whether I was going to last two weeks, or five or six weeks, that was always going to be the case.

“So I’ve got no complaints at all.”

Of course, the only thing remaining is an official announcement by the club. It isn’t like Celtic to have imperfect communication…

But as O’Neill gears up for his send-off, an honorary three points is an absolute must, ahead of a gruelling first week for Nancy.
