Former Celtic boss Martin O’Neill has been speaking about the bus situation that Ange Postecoglou will face at Ibrox tomorrow.
Postecoglou takes his champions to the home of our rivals for the final derby of the season.
Despite the game not meaning anything in terms of the Premiership title, both camps have talked up the importance of the fixture.
Ibrox will still be a hostile place for Celtic to visit, even as champions, as O’Neill remembers from a 2001 clash.
“The bus parks pretty close to the entrance at Ibrox,” he told talkSPORT. “You want it as close as possible at times.
“In fact you want that bus to take you right in to the dressing room.
“I remember one time, we’d already won the league. We went to Ibrox and climbed off the bus.
“You’re still expecting the boos and the jeers and we got them. I remember just turning around and saying “champions.”
“I thought it was under my breath. Sometimes you regret some things you say and I started getting dogs abuse.
“That ten yard walk felt about 150 miles.”
You can just imagine O’Neill’s thinking when walking from the bus to the stadium while receiving a torrent of abuse.
The simple use of the word ‘champions’ must have been so pleasing, even if he did receive even more jeers as a consequence.
Ange is unlikely to react in the same way as O’Neill, but you can be assured that it will be a pleasant moment for him walking into the home of our rivals knowing that the job is already done.
Of course, our boss has already been to Ibrox this week, for our B side’s Glasgow Cup win.
He will fancy a first-team victory tomorrow too. Then the walk back to the bus after the game may be a little quieter.
