Martin O’Neill was asked by the press about Dermot Desmond’s bombshell Brendan Rodgers statement.
O’Neill is working alongside Shaun Maloney on an interim basis at Celtic following Rodgers’ decision to resign.
Desmond delivered a scathing assessment of Rodgers in a statement shortly after his departure, sending shockwaves across football.
During the first press conference, the 73-year-old was asked about the statement and how he reacted to seeing it.
Martin O’Neill refuses to comment on Dermot Desmond statement
Perhaps understandably, the Hoops legend was keen to move away from any questions in relation to the statement from the Celtic owner, but admitted he was sad to see the relations break down.
He said: “I can’t comment on that. Celtic have been so successful for a long time now. Each manager that steps in has done brilliantly. Brendan has done terrifically well in his both times at the football club.
“From that viewpoint, I don’t know what’s happened in that sense and not for me to make a judgement. I’m in here now at the minute working with Shaun.
“So we’ll try and work together and see what that brings. But winning is the most important thing. I say it often enough when I do punditry.
It is sad (to see how Desmond and Rodgers’ relationship has collapsed). I don’t know what’s been going on.”
