The post-split fixture list has certainly got everyone talking this week. With Celtic facing two away games, in which they can win the title, former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill was asked his thoughts on Celtic having to wait until the third game to celebrate in front of fans.
O’Neill was in great spirits when he offered his opinion and even took a light-hearted jab towards Rangers after their discontentment at Alfredo Morelos’s disallowed Celtic Park goal.
Speaking ahead of the Scottish Cup semi-final [PLZ Soccer], O’Neill said, “We start off the break with two away games? Two-way games. Right? What? Do you feel as if there’s a conspiracy theory?
“Listen, honestly, I left paranoia behind some time ago.
“It must be starting again. It was really good to see from a Celtic viewpoint that Rangers are taking it on now after that disallowed goal.
“It’s really great but something I would never thought would ever have happened.
“It would be nice if Celtic could do that there [win the title at Ibrox]. But it is what it is.
“If you’re going to win a league I don’t think it genuinely would matter which week it happens to be.”
I’m with O’Neill. At first I was annoyed that we were denied the opportunity to win it in front of our own fans. But looking at the bigger picture, it really doesn’t matter.
We all know that when Celtic eventually face St Mirren at Parkhead on the 20th of May all this talk will all be forgotten about as the title celebrations begin.
