Marvin Bartley baffled and ‘shocked’ by transfer claim about Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi

Kyogo Furuhashi is a cult hero at Celtic and a player you can trust when you go into the biggest of games.

Even though the Japan star hasn’t scored the volume of goals he has previously scored, the quick-thinking player has still delivered when it has mattered most for the team.

Cite Kyogo Furuhashi’s recent stunner against Rangers, as well as his winner for Celtic at Ibrox earlier on in the season.

But when a Celtic fan suggested selling the 28-year-old, it left Marvin Bartley ’shocked’ and he stated there is ‘no chance’ he would let him go, as he told Clyde 1. 

The Queen of the South boss is expecting Brendan Rodgers to bring in ‘another striker’ during the January transfer window.

But he made it clear that he would never get rid of Kyogo Furuhashi because of his importance to the team, and rightly so.

This is how the former midfielder shut down that transfer claim about one of Celtic’s best players in recent times.

“I am extremely surprised, I am,” said Bartley. “If I was a manager of Celtic, Kyogo would not be a player I would allow to leave any time soon.

“I know he probably hasn’t hit the heights goal-wise this season, as he did in the past seasons. I understand that. But his quality and the goal he scored (against Rangers) just before the winter break, just goes to show what he is about. 

“I think he is a fantastic striker. I think he makes Celtic better. There are a lot of teams he would make better, by the way. For £7 million, I don’t think you are going to go out there and get an improved forward.

“They might go and look for another striker, but for me, Kyogo has to be the number one. If he is fit, then he needs to play. That shocks me. That has and I am not swapping Kyogo for Batshuayi, no chance!”

Playing a back-up role to Kyogo Furuhashi

Hyeongyu Oh is away on international duty with South Korea ahead of the Asian Cup games, but he is tasked with playing second fiddle to Kyogo.

It’s not an easy thing to do because your game time is limited and you have smaller chances to prove yourself.

And whoever has played that role over the years simply can’t match Kyogo because he is the difference-maker when it comes to winning trophies, as simple as that!

From his brace in the final or his recent winners against Rangers, he is the decisive player and that is very hard to match.
