Marvin Compper’s goal in today’s reserve win over Hearts has many Celtic fans revelling in it.
The big German towered home a header to put the Hoops 2-0 ahead in Greenock. Hearts did bite back to make it 2-2 after the break, but a late Karamoko Dembele free-kick sealed the points after Wallace Duffy and Compper had Celtic on easy street at half-time.

It’s a signal of the return of the former Leipzig man to match-day squads. He hasn’t been seen in an official first-team squad this season. Despite that, however, he’s been going through something of a renaissance over the last couple of months with the reserves.
He’s now appeared in the last five reserve team matches. Today, however, seen him notch his first goal in green-and-white. Supporters have since been giving their stunned reaction on Twitter:

Don’t rule out an opportunity down the line
We know it’s hard to believe, but Compper’s continued good form for the reserves could easily lead to a chance in the first-team.
If Celtic can manage to wrap up the Premiership title, it would probably be worth Neil Lennon seeing what he’s got. The interim Hoops manager has already hinted that Compper has a role to play at Parkhead.
At the end of the day, reserve matches are there for youth players and frozen-out stars to impress the manager. Compper appears to be doing just that with his recent performances – helping the reserves shoot to the top of the Reserve League by a couple of points.
It’s also worth taking into consideration the fact that Compper still has over a year to go on his current contract. Nobody knows his official wage packet at Celtic Park, but he’ll hardly be on peanuts. If he has something to give, we’re as well using it.

He’s only made one appearance for the first-team – a routine Scottish Cup win over Morton back in January 2018.
Compper also scored from a corner today, which is fairly significant. He’s been an aerial threat for the reserves since coming back, something Celtic have struggled with all season.
The German continued his comeback with another positive today. Don’t rule out seeing him make an appearance at least one more time.
