New Celtic arrival Maryan Shved has already started training with the first-team at Lennoxtown.
The Ukrainian winger arrived in Glasgow earlier this week after his loan spell at Karpaty Lviv came to an end. Shved’s final display for his old club saw him sent off in a key relegation battle. Despite that, however, he leaves Karpaty as the second top scorer in the division with 14 strikes to his name.
He’s more than done is bit for the relegation-threatened side. But now he’s already started doing what he can to impress at Parkhead.
Speaking to the official Celtic website, Shved confirmed that he’s already been working hard to impress Neil Lennon at Lennoxtown.
“It’s great to finally be here at Celtic. I’ve been really excited about coming, and now I am here, I’m really looking forward to starting my Celtic career.
“I’ve had a great few days at the training ground already, and I’ve spent my time working hard as I always do. The next few weeks is a great chance for me to get to know the club and the players and other people at Celtic. I have had a brilliant welcome already, and I am very grateful to everyone for making me feel at home.
“When I was in Ukraine, I was keeping up-to-date with every Celtic game and I was so excited to watch my new club each week head towards the title. It is an unbelievable achievement for a club to win eight league titles in a row and I congratulate the manager and all the boys and the staff.”
A player to get excited about
The fact Shved is already out and getting used to Celtic and Glasgow is great news. The fact he’s already training and getting to know his teammates, however, is even better.
He could be one of the vital pieces of the jigsaw we need down the right. Shved has often played there for Karpaty this season, with many of his goals coming from cutting on to his left foot. If the video tribute from his old club was anything to go by, he looks one heck of a talent.
For too long we’ve been waiting for a solid back-up to James Forrest. Daniel Arzani has been injured since Halloween, whilst Oliver Burke has struggled to make a consistent impact. Shved coming in could seriously sort out our problems with regards to a lack of quality to push Forrest.
Outside of highlights clips, of course, none of us know what Shved will truly bring. But so long as Celtic give him the opportunity and platform to showcase his abilities, there looks to be no reason why he wouldn’t be a success here.
This is a signing to seriously get excited about if his stats and clips are anything to go by. Getting to know his team-mates ahead of pre-season is also a good sign in terms of getting ahead for next year.
It’s now all about what he does on the pitch in green-and-white. Hopefully, he’s as good as footage makes him out to be.
