Celtic and Maryan Shved are awaiting the results of a muscle tear that could “rule him out until the end of the season”, according to the Scottish Sun.
We spoke earlier about how the Ukrainian had suffered a knock heading into a clash against Shakhtar Donetsk. Karpaty Lviv, Shved’s current club, lost the clash 5-0 as they missed his attacking influence.
Question marks had remained early this morning about the extent and nature of his injury. Lviv’s manager Fabri Gonzalez has now confirmed the winger has a torn a thigh muscle.

Here’s a look at what Gonzalez had to say about Shved in the Sun.
“Maryan suffered a bad injury when he tore an abductor muscle in his thigh.
“He is one of our best players and his absence certainly made it far harder for us against Shakhtar.
“He will have tests and at this stage we don’t yet know the extent of his injury.”
Has he played his last game?
Karpaty only have six league games left of the season to go. After one more round, the competition splits into a top and bottom six structure, similar to the Scottish Premiership. Therefore, it’s not inconceivable to think he may have played his last game of the season, if his injury keeps him out for a couple of months.
Shved’s last game for Lviv is currently scheduled to be May 25th, when the league competition finishes. Karpaty, however, are in the quarter-final of the Ukrainian Cup too. The final for that, if Karpaty make it, is May 15th. They’re due to play their quarter-final match against Inhulets’ on April 3rd.

It’s a real set-back for Shved. He caught the eye with his hat-trick against Vorskla two weeks ago. But just as he was picking up some momentum, his torn thigh has robbed him of momentum.
Hopefully the injury isn’t as bad as it could be. It wouldn’t be ideal to have a player arrive at Parkhead in the summer who hasn’t played for several months at least.
We’ll be keeping tabs on this one, but hopefully there’s some fresh news soon on the matter.
