Celtic fans have been reacting to Maryan Shved’s debut on social media over the last 24 hours.

Hoops supporters were finally given a glimpse of the exciting Ukrainian talent. Shved signed for Celtic back in January before Neil Lennon arrived, but only joined the club this summer.

Meanwhile, over in Ukraine, Shved had been tearing it up too. He was the third top goalscorer in Ukraine when he departed. He was up battling alongside the likes of Junior Moreas and Viktor Tsyhankov respectively. Even as it stands, Tsyhankov only finished two goals ahead of Shved in second (Eurosport).

But some supporters weren’t overly convinced by what they saw in his first 45 minutes of action for the Hoops. Speaking on social media, there was a mixed reaction to his display from sections of the fans.

Shved’s debut showed plenty of promise

Nobody can truly be judged on 45 minutes of football. It’s only pre-season and this was his first ever match wearing the green-and-white. Just like Mikey Johnston and Andrew Gutman can’t be overhyped just yet either for their fine displays, Shved can’t be undermined.

But nobody could watch Shved and say there wasn’t real promise there. He was consistently getting beyond his full-back or cutting inside and looking to play a killer pass. Sure, his final ball isn’t there as of yet, but that’ll come to him.

One of the other notable aspects of his game that we were treated to was his long-range shooting. Well, treated to is perhaps a bit of a stretch. Shved was certainly keen to lay down a marker for fans to remember him by. And whilst he didn’t exactly find his range in the 2-1 win over Wiener Sportclub, he will do eventually.

Another impressive trait of Shved’s was that eagerness to impress. Despite being such a young player playing with a group of serial winners, Shved wasn’t overawed. Instead, he showed real personality to try some stuff out of the ordinary, and proved that he’ll be a fantastic player in time.
