The Celtic duo of Callum McGregor and James Forrest have been nominated for a prestigious award. The pair have been selected as two of the four candidates for the Scottish football writers’ award for player of the year.

The duo join the Rangers pair of Allan McGrgeor and Alfredo Morelos on the four man shortlist.

Interestingly, the Celtic duo of McGregor and Forrest were also shortlisted for the players’ player of the year award, which was won by Forrest.

McGregor and Forrest both deserve to be nominated for the award. But there are some Celtic players who can feel unfortunate not to be on the shortlist.

Odsonne Edouard has scored 21 goals this season, some of them vital to Celtic winning eight in a row.

Replacement has been a revelation

Scott Bain has been a revelation since replacing Craig Gordon in the Hoops goal.

Whilst Kristoffer Ajer has impressed in the middle of defence.

None have made the shortlist though, and it will be up to McGregor and Forrest to ensure that the award goes back to Celtic Park.

If you were to choose a winner between the two players, Forrest might well get the nod.

The same player often wins both player and writer’s player of the year. This could well prove to be the case with the Hoops winger. He will earned both accolades.
