McGregor praises Lennon’s management skills

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has labelled manager Neil Lennon “brilliant” for the work he’s done at the club. McGregor, who has been nominated for the PFA’s player of the year award, says Lennon deserves huge credit.

The Northern Irishman has divided opinion since taking over from Brendan Rodgers in February. He’s played 10 games and won seven, but goalless draws in the other three have dampened the mood. There’s also been growing discontent at the level of performance from the Hoops.

But speaking to Clyde 1, McGregor says Lennon has been at the top of his game since returning to the Paradise hotseat.

“He has come in, thrown himself into the job and been brilliant”, the Scotland international explained.

“He has fitted in amazingly well with the boys and not too much has changed.

“I think it was a case of him trying to stabilise the club and he has done a great job. We are sitting here with three four weeks to go and still in the hunt for two trophies.

“The job he came into was massive. He had big shoes to fill, obviously, with Brendan going and with the club at one of the highest points it has ever been.

“So to come in with that pressure and to make sure the team continued winning, which is exactly what we have done.”

Positive dressing room

McGregor certainly couldn’t do more for his manager, both on and off the pitch. He has done his bit, but will the Celtic board take those thoughts into account when making their decision?

One aspect of Lennon’s second spell in charge as Celtic boss has been the positive whiff emanating from the changing room. Despite some mediocre displays, and several disappointing goalless outings, the mood has still been good.

Perhaps the Northern Irishman is building a force for the future after all.
