For about the millionth time today, Ange Postecoglou was again asked whether he’ll be changing his approach to face Bodo/Glimt tomorrow.
We’ll give you 1 guess as to what his answer was. Well done. Of course he won’t. He stated that Celtic need goals and their approach is build to try and score goals every week. It fits in with Postecoglou’s footballing philosophy. Speaking via Celtic Youtube, Ange said: “The whole reason I’m trying to build a way of playing for this football club and my belief is that we don’t have to change our approach. What we know is we need goals and that’s what we do every week.
“It would be a bigger challenge if we had to change our approach and become more expansive or aggressive. I don’t think anyone can accuse us of not being that. From that perspective, it doesn’t really change anything for us.

“We’ve just got to go out there and do what we try and do when we play, and that’s be aggressive, dominate the game, and score goals. Our approach will be exactly the same.”
But this isn’t something we shouldn’t already know by now. Ange always has an answer as to why he’ll be sticking with an all-out-attack mentality. If we were winning the tie he would state that it sets up a negative mindset if you try to set up and defend. He made those very same remarks before the second leg of our Europa League playoff tie against AZ Alkmaar [Celtic Website].
And that hasn’t been the only time he’s been asked about changing his approach. He stated before the clash against Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, for example, that he wouldn’t be amending anything [Scottish Daily Express]. He said the same before we faced Ferencvaros a month earlier [Daily Record]. For crying out loud, he said it as recently as last week [Celtic TV].
Why is Ange Postecoglou still being asked about his Celtic approach?
Ange put his methods on the table almost as soon as he arrived at the club. Yet still it feels like he’s being asked every week or second week as to what those methods are.
He has said on countless occasions now that he isn’t one to change our approach. That he wants his Celtic team to be consistently on the front foot and playing exciting football. It’s utterly bemusing that he continues to be ignored and asked about whether he’ll consider changing it a week later.
It’s done pretty well for him so far. He’s made a splash in Europe with so many of our matches, particularly away from home, being hugely entertaining. He’s also battered Rangers and won the Premier Sports Cup with his current style of play. Yet still he’s asked whether he’s going to change it.

It just seems lazy at this point. Why he would decide to change anything he does when what we need to do tomorrow is go for broke is anyone’s guess. Surely sticking to his principles is the best plan considering we need to play risky football anyway.
But he’s going to be asked it again soon. Probably when we go to Ibrox and if we’re still top of the league. You can see it now. He’ll be asked whether being top and ahead of Rangers makes him think about being more conservative and look to simply not lose the game. We all know what his answer will be, but it will be asked anyway.
It’s getting tiring now in truth. We know Ange sticks by his system regardless of the challenge put in front of him. For some reason, it’s then ignored come the next press conference. Hopefully, it won’t be long before everyone gets the message he’s been dishing out since August.
