Michael Stewart calls out ridiculous and immature Ryan Jack moment against Celtic
Michael Stewart has hit out at Ryan Jack for his ludicrously immature moment against Giorgos Giakoumakis as Celtic left his Rangers side rattled.
Jack was bigged up before the game as one of the players that was going to turn it on for Rangers yesterday. However, hilariously, he was almost totally anonymous as Callum McGregor and Tom Rogic bossed the midfield area instead.
The most noticeable thing he did was unfortunately missed by Willie Collum it seems. After being fouled by Celtic’s Giakoumakis, Jack showed his true colours. Instead of simply getting back to his feet, he tried to push the Celtic man’s face into the Ibrox turf in a petty move that should’ve resulted in a card.
Not many pundits have been willing to call that particular moment out. Stewart, however, was happy to point it out on Sportscene as he said the following:
“I don’t know what Ryan Jack is playing at there to be perfectly honest. He kept his hand on Giakoumakis’ face and then tries to square up to him”.
Collum instead booked Giakoumakis for his initial tackle but took no action when it came to Jack’s offence. It’s fair to say the Rangers midfielder got away with one big time.
Ryan Jack left rattled and psychologically drained by Celtic
What we’re seeing here is a player who was left absolutely rattled by Celtic mentally. It was clear pre-match that Giakoumakis had gotten to Jack. The Rangers player did, after all, label Giak’s title comments “disrespectful” in the build-up [STV].
No surprises then to see him try and target Giakoumakis physically during the contest. It’s not as if he was getting close to getting one over on him in terms of the result.
It’s absolutely hilarious seeing what this Rangers side ends up stooping to when things don’t go their way. It’s just a shame that Collum didn’t take action on it. It’s a typical Ryan Jack move when things aren’t going his way. He knows the title is slipping away from them, and that’s what he’s having to resort to.
I’m not going to have a major go at Willie Collum for yesterday. He’s by no means by favourite referee in the world, but he didn’t bow down to Rangers fans’ desperate demands for penalty kicks in the second half. That, at least, was something.
You could potentially point to Daizen Maeda’s first-half penalty call as a moment he’s gotten wrong. But in truth he doesn’t deserve to be caned for it. There wasn’t much controversy that came out of the game, and in fairness, he clearly tried to let it breathe.
But as for Jack, clearly he hasn’t been able to get over Giakoumakis’ class comments on being better than Rangers in every department. Shame for him then that those remarks turned out to be absolutely spot on.
