Michael Stewart doesn’t think Morgan will match Christie heroics

BBC pundit Michael Stewart has admitted that he was impressed with Lewis Morgan’s performance for Celtic in the recent game against Rennes.

Morgan, a winger usually, started up-front for the Hoops and scored the opening goal in Celtic’s 3-1 victory. However, Stewart does not see Morgan following in the footsteps of another goal hero against Rennes, Ryan Christie.

The reason for that – Stewart thinks that Christie is a better player than Morgan. However, he still feels that Morgan can do a job when called upon for the Hoops.

“At this moment in time do I see Morgan reaching Christie’s level? No, I don’t” Stewart said, writing in his column in the Scottish Sun.

“Morgan is good – you have to be good to get to where he is already I don’t see him reaching that same level Christie is currently at. But that’s not to say that given the opportunity he can’t be a big player for Celtic He took his goal brilliantly the other night” Stewart concluded.

To be fair to Stewart, he does give Morgan some praise. However, Morgan is unlikely to reach the levels that Christie has as he has rarely played for the Hoops since joining the club. He still has time though. It should be remembered that it took Christie a long time to make the breakthrough into the Celtic team.

May well feature as a striker in weeks to come

Morgan might well play a bigger part than expected for the Hoops this season. Now that he has shown he can play as a striker, Neil Lennon might feature the player more often than he has done this season. If that should be the case, then perhaps one day he will become as influential a player as Christie has become at Celtic.

For the moment though, it has to be said that Stewart is right, and Morgan might not be on a level that Christie is it. He could still do a job for the Hoops though.
