Celtic are in brilliant form this campaign and Brendan Rodgers looks to be vindicated in his decision to add new blood to the group at a considerable cost in the summer.

During the last window, the Bhoys spent over £30 million on eight signings that have given the squad a new lease of life alongside providing competition for places across the board.

Of course, managers always want more, but with Brendan Rodgers happy at Celtic’s summer business, you can see he is already reaping the rewards on the pitch.

Further potential reinforcements are already being drawn up. Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden has been watched by the Bhoys on several occasions this term as he nears a maiden senior international call-up for Denmark.

While the January window and beyond remains open to interpretation, Michael Stewart has highlighted the Celtic signing he thinks has been crucial regarding their Champions League performances.

Michael Stewart on Auston Trusty’s Celtic impact

Speaking on the Scottish Football Social Club, Stewart believes Auston Trusty’s athletic qualities alongside Liam Scales’ presence in the squad have given Celtic several reliable options in the central defensive situation, while he also complemented the former’s impact on the European stage.

He stated: “The beauty about Trusty as well, (he’s) predominantly left-sided, but we’ve seen him with Scales, he is comfortable enough to go and play on that right-hand side.

“Liam Scales has done brilliant; you’d have no qualms about him playing because you look at him and Trusty playing together in Bergamo against Atalanta, and they were both outstanding.

“But, you’ve got to say that as good as Scales has been, it was the area where people were looking at and saying, Celtic, if they could upgrade in that position, it would be hugely beneficial for Europe.

“At the moment, that athleticism from Trusty certainly suits that Celtic side and looks like it’s going to help them in Europe.”

Auston Trusty has elevated standards at Celtic

Although he took a few games to bed in, Trusty looks to be a shrewd piece of business from Celtic after arriving for £6 million during the summer from Sheffield United.

Sometimes, the proof is in the pudding. You pay sizeable fees for quality, which is what the United States international has brought to the table regardless of his defensive partner.

Stat-trackers Fotmob show Trusty has won 40 duels and 26 aerial battles on Scottish Premiership duty, offering power and aggression within Rodgers’ tactical framework.

His arrival has illustrated why bravery is important in the transfer market. Speculating to accumulate is the way forward for Celtic, there can be no question of that.
