Michael Stewart has hailed the attacking flair from Celtic after demolishing Dundee 6-0 at Parkhead this afternoon.
Despite struggling for long spells last season when it came to breaking teams down, Postecoglou hasn’t had any issues doing just that so far. Celtic had scored seven goals in their four competitive matches coming into today before smashing in another six.
All of a sudden, the Hoops sit with a record of 13 goals in five games. Our goalscoring woes already appear to be a thing of the past. Much of this, of course, has been down to the additions of Liel Abada and Kyogo Furuhashi respectively.
And reacting to Celtic’s first three points of the season today, Stewart was left wowed by the improvement on last season:
Michael Stewart spots key improvement; Celtic didn’t stop all afternoon
What was most pleasing for Celtic fans was the ruthless streak we seemed to have throughout the 90 minutes.
In recent years, when Tom Rogic slams home Celtic’s third, that would generally be that. The next half hour or so would be a slog and we would likely see the game out as is. 3-0. Job done, but done a little too early.
It doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case under Postecoglou. Just the opposite in fact. Instead, he’s going to be urging his side to be taking it to the opposition for the full 90 minutes.
Sure, there will be times when game management will dictate that our approach differs. But this isn’t a Celtic side that’s ever going to stop looking for goals. It isn’t going to turn around for the final half-hour and think ‘we’ll defend what we have’. That doesn’t appear to be how Postecoglou sets his sides up.
Today was absolutely massive for everyone connected with the football club. It was a huge result that showed signs of a new Celtic. A Celtic that isn’t going to be fearful of what lies ahead this season.
Most importantly, a Celtic that simply never stops until the referee blows for full-time.
