Celtic strolled to a routine 3-0 victory over Motherwell yesterday as Brendan Rodgers’ men maintained their unbeaten start on league duty.

Aberdeen posed a question for the Hoops to answer after defeating Dundee United on Saturday. However, the Bhoys comfortably reclaimed their place at the top of the Scottish Premiership amid goals from Luke McCowan, Alistair Johnston and Adam Idah.

Leaving Celtic on 25 points from 27 available across their first nine league matches, Brendan Rodgers will be delighted with the power of his starting line-up and options on the bench to influence proceedings.

Yesterday, Arne Engels and Idah’s introduction enabled the manager to bring on over £20 million of talent at Fir Park.

Nevertheless, Michael Stewart believes one of Celtic’s more cost-effective imports stole the show in Lanarkshire to fire his side to the league summit.

Michael Stewart on ‘top-class’ Celtic man Luke McCowan

Speaking on Sportscene, Stewart showered praise on ‘top-class’ Celtic performer Luke McCowan for his role in the Bhoys’ victory over Motherwell yesterday, citing his suitability with Rodgers’ possession-orientated tactucal framework after he got his side off to a flyer with his second goal for the club.

He stated: “Well, in terms of wondering how much game time he was going to get, plenty, I would think, because they’ve got so many games, and he’s a top-class player.

“You look at certain individuals, and you think, put them in a better team, and they’re going to continue to thrive, and he certainly falls into that category. He’s in a side now that dominates possession; they’re going to get forward and create chances and he fits into that perfectly.

“He’s somebody that has quite clearly an eye for goal; he’s got the wear with all and the guile on the final third to see passes and space for his teammates. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t thrive at Celtic, he’s a very, very good player and it’s good to see young Scottish talent getting that opportunity.”

Luke McCowan is showing he can mix it at Celtic

After McCowan arrived at Celtic for £1 million during the summer, some questioned whether he could handle the step up from life at Dens Park compared to Parkhead.

Having had the opportunity to take in his opening couple of months at the club, it is fair to draw the conclusion that he has proven his ability to mix it with the rest of Rodgers’ options in the engine room.

Two goals and a series of impressive cameo displays led to his first start in green and white at Fir Park yesterday. When Celtic were in need of a moment of magic, guess who stepped up to deliver the decisive blow?

Making an impressive start to his time in Glasgow, McCowan is someone you can expect plenty more from over the course of this season.
