Former Celtic teammates of Joe Ledley have been paying tribute to the midfielder after he officially announced his retirement from football.
Ledley signed for the Bhoys from Cardiff City at the start of Neil Lennon’s first spell as manager and quickly became a key part of the squad.
He made 157 appearances in total for the club, winning three league titles and a Scottish Cup. Memorable moments include a stunning headed goal vs Rangers and a delightful pass at Ibrox on Samaras Sunday.

Today on Instagram, Ledley released a statement confirming that he is hanging up his boots.
Paying particular tribute to Celtic, he said: “I’m officially retiring from football. It all started when I was 9 and signed for Cardiff City, since then I have never looked back. Making my debut for my home town team at the age of 17, fresh-faced and full of ambition. It was a dream come true.
“Playing in play-off and FA cup finals at Wembley are moments I will never forget. The highest of highs to the lowest of lows with a club that is so close to my heart.
“Signing for Celtic was a true highlight, an amazingly unique football club. There was no better feeling than winning trophies for arguably the most passionate fans in the world, cherished memories. Hail Hail 🍀.”
Ledley was a popular player with his teammates wherever he went, so it’s no surprise that many are lining up on the social media site to pay tribute to the players.
I’m sure more former Celtic players will be along shortly, but in the hour or so since the Welshman’s announcement, former Bhoys such as Mikael Lustig and Tony Watt have left kind comments underneath the post.

I’m sure Ledley will be very fondly remembered by supporters too. He always gave his best in a Hoops shirt and seemed to connect with the club off the pitch too.
Enjoy your retirement Joe and all the best in whatever you decide to do next!
