Mikey Johnstone has announced that he will wear the number 19 jersey for Celtic next season. The young midfielder has worn the number 73 for his entire Celtic career to date but will now make the switch next season.

He announced the move on his Instagram account.
The 19 jersey has been held by Scott Allan for the past four seasons. Johnston will be looking for more luck that the Hibernian midfielder who didn’t manage a single Celtic appearance in the last three years.

Bad timing
The end of the season probably came at the wrong time for Johnston. The young winger was just starting to find his groove in the Celtic first-team after a man of the match display against Hearts on Trophy Day and another solid display in the Scottish Cup final against the same opposition.
He’ll have to fight to keep his starting spot when the new season gets underway. The likes of Daniel Arzani, Maryan Shved and Lewis Morgan will all have their eye on the first-team and Johnston will have to be on his game.

The winger has real potential and showed that on a few occasions last season. Now, he needs to try and find an element of consistency this coming season. It’s easier said than done when you’re only playing the odd game here and there, but he has to do his best.
Neil Lennon has proven that age is no barrier in the past. He’s given the likes of Tony Watt, James Forrest and Liam Henderson big chances in the past. Johnston has to use that to his advantage and become a consistent Celtic star.
