Mikey Johnston given encouragement by Celtic coaches
Celtic starlet Mikey Johnston has just recently returned to first-team action for the Hoops after a long spell out of the side.
The Hoops winger enjoyed an excellent start to the season before injury curtailed his progress. Now he is once more fully fit, and with Mohamed Elyounoussi injured, he has a chance to make a place in the first-team his own.
Johnston has revealed that he has received encouragement from the Celtic coaching staff in his bid to get back into the team, and make an impact on the side.
“What I’m good at is getting on the ball and driving at people – that’s what I’m comfortable with” Johnston said, as reported by the Evening Times.
“Boosts your belief”
“The coaching staff have told me they’ll never moan at me for taking men on and that kind of encouragement boosts your belief.”
Since returning from injury, Johnston has started one game – the 2-0 Europa League loss to Cluj. Hopefully that changes when the Hoops play St Mirren on Thursday afternoon.
Johnston would add a positive attacking dimension to the Hoops side, and perhaps help the team finish some chances they have been missing in recent weeks.
Of course, should Johnston star for the Hoops against St Mirren then he could make the starting line-up for the game against Rangers on Sunday.
Excelled in derby win this season
That is where the encouragement he has received from his Hoops coaches could come in handy. It should be remembered that he excelled in Celtic’s 2-0 win over Rangers in September. That could happen again in the upcoming Glasgow derby.
Johnston is a player who looks to have a big future at Celtic. With the encouragement of his coaches at the club he can get even better as a player.
The positive attitude given to him by the Hoops coaches can only benefit Johnston in seasons to come.
