Mikey Johnston made his return from injury for Celtic in the Europa League win over Rennes last month. He scored for the Hoops in the 3-1 win, and added to that with a goal in the 4-1 win over Ross County.

He recently made his first start for the Hoops since September in the 2-0 defeat to Cluj. Despite scoring twice since returning from injury, the Celtic winger isn’t satisfied with his recent performances.

“I want as much game time as I can get at the moment, just to get my fitness back I want to make my way into the team again” he said, as reported by the Herald.

“It’s been okay so far. I’ve managed to score a couple of goals and get a few assists but I know I can be a lot better. There’s more I can add to my game and be more effective” he concluded.

The player is being harsh on himself. He has performed well since making his return after what was a long time out of action. Johnston has contributed well since coming back into the team.

It should be remembered that he was one of the few Celtic players who came close to finding the back of the net in the Betfred Cup Final, and he was the only attacking player to do so.

In a way it is a good sign that the player is being harsh on his performances. That shows that he is eager to improve, so he can keep his place in the first-team.

Johnston has impressed for the Hoops since the start of the season. The injury came at a bad time for him, as it meant that other players could impress in his position. However, now that he is fully fit he seems eager to get back to his best. That can only be a good thing for the player, and the club.
