Celtic and Mikey Johnston went their separate ways permanently last week as the academy graduate moved to West Bromwich Albion permanently.

The 25-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the Baggies, registering nine goals and two assists in 20 appearances.

Johnston leaves for pastures new after achieving the dreams of many at Celtic. Despite his regular injury inconveniences, the Glasgow-born man made nearly 100 appearances and played his part in a shedload of trophies making their way to Glasgow’s east end.

Ultimately, he now needs to broaden his horizons somewhere else, but his contribution and talent will be remembered fondly by the support.

Taking to Instagram, Johnston has now delivered an emotional goodbye message to the club as he prepares for life south of the border.

Mikey Johnston’s farewell message to Celtic

On the social media platform, Johnston posted a lengthy goodbye message to Celtic and revealed he will now be ‘going back’ to being a fan again after seven years in the senior fold at his boyhood club.

He stated: “It’s hard to say goodbye. I feel very fortunate to have been able to play for Celtic. I’ve lived my dream, playing just one minute would have been enough. Thank you to everyone at the club for helping me grow as a player and as a person throughout the years. Thank you to the fans who supported me through the good times and the bad. Looking forward to a new chapter now and going back to being a Celtic fan again. Hail hail, MJ.”

Saying farewell isn’t easy. Johnston has given most of his life to the club and in another universe, he may have made a greater impact if it wasn’t for injuries and inconsistency.

However, he will hold so many fond memories of his time at Celtic and got to play for the Bhoys during one of the most dominant periods in their history. Hopefully, he can continue to thrive at West Brom and continue having a successful career elsewhere. Good luck Mikey!
