Mikey Johnston’s hopes of securing a dream move to Brazil appear to be in doubt due to one stumbling block.
Johnston was tipped to make a £5m move to Flamengo and leave West Bromwich Albion – the club he joined after leaving Celtic.
The proposed move certainly raised eyebrows among Hoops supporters and West Brom fans but it now looks like he could be remaining in England.

Flamengo fans protest proposed Mikey Johnston transfer
It seemed like a deal to take Johnston to Brazil was signed, sealed and delivered, however, reports from South America suggest otherwise.
Ge Globo reported that Flamengo are now having second thoughts about signing the Republic of Ireland international due to fan unrest.
Supporters have hit out at the decision to sign the winger but to make matters worse, Johnston hasn’t even been told about Flamengo’s decision to pull out.
Globo have even suggested that the 26-year-old is still scheduled to arrive in Rio de Janeiro at this point.
Last season, Johnston scored three times in 25 games for West Brom.
How were Flamengo made aware of Mikey Johnston?
It’s fair to say that everyone was left in a state of shock when Johnston to Flamengo was first announced.
But, the move does make sense, as proved by the Express and Star.
Flamengo’s football director Jose Boto was at Portuguese side Vitora de Guimaraes – the side that Johnston joined on loan while coming through the ranks at Celtic.
There’s been no confirmation to suggest that the Hoops would’ve been entitled to a sell-on fee had Johnston made the move but for now, it seems like he is staying with West Brom.
