Celtic’s reported replacement for Kieran Tierney, Milad Mohammadi, is out of contract this summer.

The Scottish Sun believe that Celtic could opt to go back in for a player they were reportedly interested in a year ago.

And there’s a further bonus as it turns out that the defender has rejected a new deal in Russia with Akhmat Grozny. If necessary, Celtic could jump in and seize him for nothing this summer should they allow Tierney to depart.

The current Hoops full-back has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal over the last week (The Times). Should the move go through, it would leave Celtic with just one natural left-back in Andrew Gutman. Jonny Hayes can also play in that position, but it’s not his natural choice.

Mohammadi, however, is one of the names in the frame. He shot to fame thanks to this crazy throw-in from the World Cup for Iran last year.

Milad Mohammadi Celtic deal surely relies on Tierney move

In terms of substantial achievements, he’s managed 30 appearances for his country and has played at a World Cup. He’s yet to win anything in football, however, and has only played for two clubs throughout his career. Before signing for Grozny, Mohammadi was with Rah Ahman back in Iran.

A move to Celtic would be by far the biggest high-point of his career. He’s also never played European football, which could be a big lure for him with regards to Parkhead.

The Scottish Sun, however, believe that Celtic could have some competition for his signature from Belgian sides Gent and Anderlecht. You would like to think that a move to Parkhead, however, would be more appealing for him.

The deal to take Tierney to Arsenal is nowhere near completed of course. As it stands, the latest is that Arsenal had a second bid for the left-back rejected, according to the Times.

Until Celtic get the money they want for their current left-back, Mohammadi won’t be arriving. The departure of Emilio Izaguirre, however, has left us short of options in that position.

Left-back is also just one of a number of areas across the back that Celtic have to strengthen over the coming weeks. Centre-back and right-back are also priority areas for the Hoops this summer.

As for the Milad Mohammadi Celtic speculation, however, it surely simply relies on where Tierney goes.
