Kieran Tierney is set to join Celtic from Arsenal in the summer.
Brendan Rodgers is set to welcome Tierney home to Paradise in less than three months time after securing the Arsenal defender on a pre-contract in January.
Tierney left Celtic in 2019 to pursue a career in the English Premiership and, impressing early into his Arsenal career, the Scotland defender fell out of favour with Mikel Arteta.
However, the 27-year-old defender has been getting a run in The Gunners’ side recently with Tierney facing Man United and PSV in Arsenal’s last two fixtures.
But it was against PSV in the Champions League 2-2 draw that the returning Celtic-supporting defender really impressed with many Arsenal fans ruing the fact Tierney is leaving and returning to Glasgow in June.

Arsenal fans are all saying the same thing about returning Celtic hero Kieran Tierney
Tierney started Arsenal’s last 16 Champions League fixture against PSZ and lasted 79 minutes of the match.
Playing out a 2-2 draw, the Arsenal supporters were well impressed with Tierney as they lauded his performance that took their team in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition.
One Arsenal fan said, “He deserves more respect. Celtic are a classy club who will appreciate his talents. I’ve missed him. I prefer him to Zinchenko, but a disciplined Skelly has that position on lock.” as another posted on X, “Tierney is a proper left back. Miles Lewis-Skelly will make a better left winger than Tierney.
“If there is anyone who should be playing LB, it should be Tierney, while MLS plays as an LW. Saka started as a LB as well.”
Another Gunner said:
Whilst many more were impressed with Tierney’s crossing, “The best left-footer crosser of the ball. Pinpoint on the button and he shoots from outside the box as well.”
Another Arsenal fan said, “He whips in the most dangerous crosses. We need that.” as another put, “Tierney better than Trossard at left wing.”
Kieran Tierney’s Arsenal stats vs PSV show Celtic are getting a class footballer
Clearly, the Arsenal fans are loving Tierney and as Celtic wait to welcome him home, the left-back’s stats against PSV from Fotmob show just how good he really is:
- Minutes on pitch: 79
- Touches: 33
- Passing accuracy: 83%
- Passes into final third: 4
- Tackles won: 100%
- Ball recoveries: 2
- Duels won: 2
Considering Tierney was playing in the front three of an attacking 4-3-3 formation, that wasn’t a bad performance from the Celtic Invincible.
With more first-team minutes under his belt, Tierney will be returning to Celtic a lot more fitter and sharper which can only be a good thing for Brendan Rodgers for next season.
