Another week and another great piece of contract news from Celtic. B team starlet Mitchell Roberston has committed his future to the club and signed a new three-year deal.

The 18-year-old defender has clearly impressed Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus this season and his form for the youth side has been excellent.

Speaking about his new deal, Robertson said, “I’m delighted. I joined the club in 2020, and it’s been a great experience so far.“It’s been a great year for myself.

“Obviously coming up from the Under-18s squad for the UEFA Youth League, I was maybe a wee bit fortunate to get that opportunity, but I got the chance to come up and perform, and I think I have taken that well.

“I’ve still got loads to progress on and learn, but my time here has been brilliant so far and I’m thrilled to extend my stay.

“It’s been great to learn from Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus. I’m one of the fortunate boys with that fact that both of them have played my position, and they are both left-footed as well!

“So that is always good, to learn off of coaches like that. You learn a lot from them, having played at a high level.

“I’m just looking forward to cracking on now, putting in the hard work and doing more of what I have done this year.” [Celtic FC]

Robertson had a stuttering start to the season. The young defender never really got going until November when he became a more regular pick after missing much of the beginning of the season.

But since then, he has been named in Ange Postecoglou’s Champions League squad and only missed two games for the B Team as the youths challenged for the Lowland League title.

He has also represented Scotland at u19 level so it is very clear that Robertson certainly has the potential to grow and develop into a very good defender.
