Celtic could be exploring a new scouting route after being linked to a second MLS player in the space of a few days.

After rumours linking the Hoops to winger Alberth Elis were dismissed, Celtic were linked to another MLS star just days later.

The North American market is one that Celtic have not had any success out of so far. Mexican internationalist Efrain Juarez was a flop at the club after signing in 2010.

The Bhoys have just signed American striker Timothy Weah on a six month loan deal from PSG. If the latest reports are true, he may be joined by fellow US internationalist Trapp.

One thing that has held Celtic back in terms of tapping into this market fully is the issue of work permits being given to the players.

However, Trapp holds a Greek passport, making a move to Glasgow more straightforward.

A defensive minded midfielder is something Celtic could be doing with, to release the attacking potential of their flair players like Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie.

The continuous rumours linking Celtic with moves for MLS stars could suggest a new transfer strategy for the club.

It shows that at least they are trying to explore every possible avenue of success in the transfer market.

In Trapp, Celtic could be signing a highly coveted star to be.

The 25 year old is currently captain of his club side in Columbus. A defensive leader is something Celtic are crying out for, even if he does operate in midfield.

Looking near and far for talent

A new scouting route at Celtic is something to be welcomed. For too long now Celtic’s transfer strategy has seemed the same.

Either sign a player from the Premiership, or loan someone from the reserve side of an English team. That may be a bit simplistic, but it has been the case for the last few years.

Patrick Roberts was a success at Celtic, there can be no denying that. However the loan deal surrounding Charley Musonda was a disaster for the club. He left having been a damp squib in his four months at the club.

It could now be a case of ‘Stars and Hoops’ if the club can secure the signing of Trapp.
