Mo Elyounoussi has put the injury setback which ruined his first season with Celtic firmly behind him as he looks to stay fit for both club and country, the Evening Times reports.

Elyounoussi had enjoyed an excellent start to his first season with Celtic. That was until he suffered a foot injury in the aftermath of the Betfred Cup semi-final against Hibernian. That kept the 26-year-old out of action for a month. He then exacerbated the injury in the Betfred Cup final against Rangers.

That injury kept him out of action for two months. With the football shut down coming only a month later, his chances of having an impact in the second-half of the season evaporated.

However, the Norwegian is now fully fit, and he has put the injury woes of last season behind him.

“Don’t think too much about what happened”

“I don’t think too much about what happened with the injury last year because this is a new season and I have it all ahead of me. Now I’m doing everything I can to stay healthy and, hopefully, to score more goals for Celtic and for Norway” Elyounoussi said, as quoted by the Evening Times.

It could have been easy for Elyounoussi to have been affected with such a serious injury. Especially one which occurred twice.

Playing with a freedom this season

However, he hasn’t been, and indeed this season he has been in excellent form for Celtic. He seems to be playing with a freedom which he had before he suffered the untimely injury which ruined his first season with the Hoops.

If he can keep up the current level of form, and more importantly avoid any injuries, then he could be a real difference-maker for Celtic this season.

However, Elyounoussi won’t be looking too far ahead yet. He and Celtic will be taking it one game at a time. That is the right thing to do. However, it is encouraging that the foot injury hasn’t cropped up so far this season. Long may he stay injury-free.

In other news, Sparta’s lack of football seems like an advantage to Celtic but Neil Lennon won’t think like that.
