Celtic’s Mohamed Elyounoussi is finally on his way back from a long-term foot injury.

In fact, according to Neil Lennon, the winger could feature for Celtic in Wednesday night’s trip to Motherwell.

“Elyounoussi is back” the Hoops boss said, as reported by the Herald.

One reason that Elyounoussi was out of action for so long was that he made his original football injury worse by playing in December’s Betfred Cup Final against Rangers.

Only played 45 minutes since November

That is the only game Elyounoussi has played in for Celtic since the 2-0 win over Motherwell in November.

The winger only lasted 45 minutes against Rangers at Hampden before being substituted, and he has not featured for the side since.

Now he has disclosed that he shouldn’t have played in the game, as he was still recovering from his original foot injury.

“I’m not gonna lie, it’s been tough” Elyounoussi said, as quoted by Norwegian website TV2.

“It came too soon”

“It’s been almost two months since I played. Then it was a cup final, which is difficult to say no to, but I was not ready for it at all. It came too soon. I have to take a good part of the blame for doing the damage there. But now I feel at least ready” he concluded.

It is brave of Elyounoussi to take the blame for making his injury worse. You can’t really blame him for declaring himself fit for the cup final though.

A first final for Celtic against bitter rivals Rangers when he was in good form? Elyounoussi was always going to declare himself ready to play.

However, the move backfired, and it has taken almost two months for Elyounoussi to recover from the foot injury.

The good news is that the winger is coming back to a Celtic team in excellent form. He has been missed in the months he was out, but the Hoops, aside from a rare blip, have gone from strength to strength.

The return of Elyounoussi can only make the team even better.
