Celtic star Mohamed Elyounoussi has explained his passionate celebration with Moritz Bauer in the wake of his UEFA Europa League goal against Cluj, The Telegraph report.
The summer Hoops signing netted the second goal of a 2-0 win over the Romanian champions, appearing to run towards manager Neil Lennon before ignoring his boss and heading directly to Bauer.
Rather than being a snub of the Celtic manager though, it was simply a pre-planned moment between the two loanees at the club.
Asked about it in the wake of his stellar display against Ross County on Saturday, Elyounoussi told The Telegraph: “That wasn’t the plan. I had been talking with Moritz Bauer before the game, and he said, ‘If you score, come looking for me.’ When I scored, that’s why I ran to him and not the manager. I’ll remember for next time.”
“For me to get a goal that night was special. It had been a while since I scored and it was amazing to do it in front of 60,000 people.”
Elyounoussi’s position to lose
With injury and form problems taking their toll on other left wingers at Celtic this season, it appears the Southampton man has emerged as our prime pick in the position.
Not only did he score that crucial European effort, but pitched in with a double during league action this weekend.
That means in his six Celtic matches to date he now has three goals and two assists.
It’s excellent form that should ensure he is first-choice pick for big matches moving forward. Players such as Mikey Johnston have a bit of work to do to convince Lennon otherwise.
Hopefully we see another sprinting Elyounoussi celebration to the Hoops dugout against Lazio this Thursday.
