Celtic attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi has yet to experience the unique occasion of a Glasgow derby. The player didn’t feature in Celtic’s 2-0 win at Ibrox in September as he had only just joined the club.
However, since then he has become an integral part of the Celtic line-up. Now that he is a first-team regular for the Hoops, he is hoping to make his Glasgow derby debut in next month’s Betfred Cup Final at Hampden Park.
“The League Cup Final is a chance to win some silverware early in the season and I can’t wait for this game” he said, as reported by the Scotsman.
“I really want to experience”
“I watched the first Old Firm game of the season and the atmosphere was amazing. It’s something I really want to experience, so I’m really looking forward to this game.”
If Elyounoussi is fit, there is little doubt that he will be starting his first derby at Scotland’s national stadium. He could give the Hoops the edge over their Glasgow rivals.
Celtic’s performance in the aforementioned win at Ibrox was one of their best of the season. However, the Hoops didn’t really create that many chances in the game. That could change with Elyounoussi in the side.
Gives Hoops an added attacking threat
He gives Celtic an added attacking threat which they didn’t have in the first game at Ibrox. That is why it is so important that he is fit to take part in the Betfred Cup Final. Rangers will have to deal with a player they have not faced this season, how they manage to deal with him could have a big impact on the outcome of the game.
Elyounoussi has been in excellent form for Celtic in recent weeks, and it is no wonder that he is eager to feature in the Betfred Cup Final. He could well be the player that helps the Hoops win the first trophy of the season.
