Celtic attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi has identifies just how the Hoops can get the best out of recent signing Albian Ajeti, the Celtic View reports.
Elyounoussi is very familiar with Ajeti as the duo played together for a time at Basel. Elyounoussi believes that you will get the best out of Ajeti by playing him not as a main striker, but as a ‘number 10’.
“He’s a good player, there’s no doubt about that, and he scored a lot of goals at Basel” Elyounoussi said, as quoted by the Celtic View (Volume 56, Issue 5, Page. 12).
“We assisted for each other”
“He sits behind the striker, and playing as a number 10, we assisted for each other over the course of the season a number of times.”
It is interesting to note that Elyounoussi sees Ajeti as a player who will work best playing behind a striker. That could mean that he has been bought by Neil Lennon to partner another striker – most likely Odsonne Edouard – in a 3-5-2 formation.
The duo have only played together briefly. That was when Ajeti came on to be the match-winner with a late goal in the 1-0 win over Dundee United last Saturday.
Partnership could be rekindled?
Sadly with Edouard injured, we won’t see the duo play together against Motherwell later today. However, perhaps as a one-off we might see Ajeti as the main striker, with Elyounoussi playing behind him in the ‘number 10’ role.
The players are familiar with each other from their time in Basel. Therefore, they could click together in a partnership. Who knows, should it go well Neil Lennon could try it again in the future.
Ajeti has started his career well with a winning goal. You can’t ask for much more than that from a striker.
The international break might have come at a bad time for Ajeti as he looks to get his Celtic career started. However, if he can find the net against Motherwell that will show that the Hoops have made a smart move signing the player.
