Mohamed Elyounoussi has told the Celtic support that he will be returning shortly, by posting on Instagram.
The Norwegian winger has missed our last three games after picking up a knock while on international duty. We may have scored 11 goals in the time that he’s been away but many will still be delighted to see him back with so many big games on the horizon.
The 25-year-old won’t feature against Hamilton tomorrow, as confirmed by Neil Lennon to the Daily Record earlier today. However, he could still be in line to return to face Rangers for the first time at the weekend.
Lennon was giving little away on that prospect as he kept his cards close to his chest. However, Elyounoussi may just have hinted that he’s going to be fit for the Hampden showdown.
He took to Instagram on Tuesday evening and kept his message brief, posting just three emojis: “back”, “soon” and an egg timer. The tension is unbearable.
Instagram post shows Elyounoussi is raring to go
It’s easy to forget that Elyounoussi had scored six goals in seven games prior to his injury. The former Basel man had also saved possibly his best performance for the Mount Florida stage, putting in a sterling display in our semi-final win over Hibernian and grabbing a brace.
Having him around for the final would be just as big a boost as Odsonne Edouard being back. However, there is less pressure on Elyounoussi to be ready, due to the strength in depth we enjoy in the position.
Not too many Hoops fans would be unhappy to see Mikey Johnston lined up against the bombscare Rangers captain James Tavernier. The Englishman would struggle to deal with the guile of either Elyounoussi or Johnston. Perhaps he will have to face both over the 90 minutes.
Whatever happens, it’s just great to hear that Moi is close to a return. And he’s raring to get back on the pitch too.
