Former Celtic attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi says he has shown he is good enough to play in the Premier League.

The Norwegian is having a strong season back with Southampton, and has netted eight goals this campaign.

Elyounoussi was a big hit in two season-long loans spent at Celtic Park, before he decided to return to his parent club.

He’s out of contract in the summer of 2023 and is hoping he’s done enough to earn a new deal.

I think I have shown that I am more than good enough for the Premier League,” he told Norwegian outlet TV2.

“I really look at this as my first season in the Premier League.

“I think it can only get better. I think Southampton see that too. I thrive there and have expressed that I would like to stay there longer.”

Elyounoussi moved on and Celtic found Jota

Elyounoussi was much loved at Celtic Park. Few players get the love and affection he received in consecutive campaigns.

But things reached a natural end last summer. Neither Elyounoussi or Celtic have struggled as a result. Quite the opposite.

As detailed, the Norwegian has gone on to have a fine season and is now one of Southampton’s go-to players.

Celtic, meanwhile, have found a winger who is arguably superior in Jota, as well as Daizen Maeda.

Elyounoussi has gone on to better things. So have Celtic.

Maybe we’ll see him back at Celtic Park in Europe one day.

For now, let’s just hope we’re not having the same conversation about Jota next year.
