Lewis Morgan wishes that he could change one part of his Celtic career to date. The 22-year-old wishes he had walked right into the first-team and hadn’t had to go out on loan to Sunderland.
The Scotland international featured 22 times during his five month spell with the Black Cats and is likely to return to Celtic a better player. However, he still wishes the move hadn’t been necessary.

He told the Daily Record: “Callum McGregor did as well, so did Kris Ajer.
“They went out and improved by playing week in week out and getting games in their legs. Then they went back and really pushed for the team.
“That’s what I’m aiming to do now. I didn’t want to do it this way. I wanted to go and play straight away.”

Still time to succeed
Morgan shouldn’t feel too downhearted about not breaking into the Celtic side at the first opportunity. Not many Scottish signings have in recent years. The likes of Ryan Christie and Stuart Armstrong both took time to become mainstays of the Celtic team.
The latter is now plying his trade down south while the former is likely to make a similar move at some stage. Morgan still has his best years ahead of him at 22 and has shown he has lots to offer.
He must now look to impress when given an opportunity at the club. Ryan Christie leapt onto the scene in the victory over Hearts at Murrayfield but the truth is that the midfielder had been impressing for weeks prior to that.

Morgan must look to do the same. His opportunities may be limited but he must hit the ground running when he does play. He must try to get back to doing what he does best: running and defenders and getting shots on goal.
Christie and Ajer have set the benchmark. Now it’s time for others to follow.
