Celtic’s problems under Wilfried Nancy have not all been down to him.
After all, it’s not up to a manager to score a goal when it’s right there waiting to be scored.
In every game under Nancy – particularly against Dundee United and Aberdeen – Celtic have been left regretting gilt-edged chances to score.
And more often than not, they’ve been punished for them, with an open defence struggling to keep the opposition out.
Thankfully, the last two games have seen Celtic secure the three points, but not without hassle. And ahead of their next game against Motherwell, the opposing captain has openly joked about the Hoops’ finishing struggles.
Where do you stand on Sebastian Tounekti? Would you sell him in January?
Motherwell captain Paul McGinn on Celtic in front of goal under Wilfried Nancy
Nancy joked about feeling like he had no luck after the Aberdeen game, in which Celtic hit the woodwork five times.
And for Well captain Paul McGinn, the request for Tuesday’s game is clear: he wants Celtic to miss sitters.

Speaking ahead of the game at Fir Park, McGinn was asked about what he thought of the challenge posed by Celtic.
He joked that he wasn’t happy to see that the team had finally started scoring goals in the last two games under Nancy.
McGinn said: “I am not happy Celtic have finally found their shooting boots!
“Celtic were missing sitters for fun recently but that’s now seven goals in two games from them, so I’m not too pleased about that.
“Hopefully they go back to missing big chances again on Tuesday.
“It is a big game for us again and a good one to pick ourselves up in after the Rangers game, where we were pretty toothless up front.
“If we get the three points from the Celtic game then that would get us rolling again – and that’s what we’ll try to do.”
If the last meeting between these sides is anything to go by, then both teams will be scoring goals on Tuesday.
Would you be in favour of Celtic reuniting Wilfried Nancy with Wessam Abou Ali in January?
Strikers linked with Celtic in January
A good way for Celtic to address their finishing troubles would be to sign some strikers in January,
Two men who scored goals under Nancy in Columbus are Palestinian striker Wessam Abou Ali and Uruguayan star Diego Rossi, both of whom have been linked with following him to Glasgow.
Celtic also like Ibrahim Diabate, the Ivorian striker who was top goalscorer in the Swedish league in 2025.
Evan Ferguson is another name linked, but that feels more fanciful at the minute given his lucrative contract at Brighton.
