Motherwell have organised an official club food bank collection for this Saturday’s match between the Steelmen and Celtic.

The Scottish Premiership fixture kicks off at 3 pm with both ‘Well and Celtic supporters in attendance.

Chief Executive Alan Burrows now has sent out a plea to fans of both teams who are in a position to support the initiative with donations sent on to the Lanarkshire Community Food Partnership and the Motherwell Food Bank.

Burrows also said on the official Motherwell website: “It is crucial that we continue to try and help people in need in our local community.

“We are all too aware of the need for assistance that many in our local area have. With many still feeling the impact of the pandemic, on top of other factors, it is important that we all step up to give what we can.

“We hope that fans of both clubs will step up and help us collect as much as possible.”

The full list of items most needed can be found via this link, but it includes tinned foods, pasta and rice, pasta sauces, toiletries, cleaning products and pet supplies.

Celtic supporters have wonderfully answered calls like this in the past, with ultras group The Green Brigade regularly organising food bank drives at Celtic Park itself before home matches.

Hopefully this is another success in Motherwell and the communities most in need receive a big boost from football supporters.
